6 Local Asian Tours to Highlight Your Trip!

Young novice monks near Chiang Mai

In the recent past I have talked about tales in Asia from Mae Hong Son in Thailand, Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, and Siem Reap, Cambodia.( also here, and here).  All exotic and spectacular locales! Many of you may be going to those exact places! I certainly hope so! Having partnered with Viator, we have some awesome, popular and fun suggested tours in specific areas that we KNOW will assist you whether you go solo or bring someone along.

Northern Thailand

If traveling to Northern Thailand, the city of Chiang Mai will most certainly be a jumping off point for most to the rest of the region. From here many travel further into Mae Hong Son province. Pai is a big destination for most, usually a couple of days and back to Chiang Mai. Here are some exclusive private options if time is of essence and you want more bang! (For your bucks)

4 Days/3 Nights Chiang Mai-Pai-Mae Hong Son Tour

This tour picks you up in Chiang Mai at your date of choosing and involves zip lining and the Pai Night Market over- nighting in Pai, hot springs, caves, a hill tribe village and an overnight stay in Mae Hong Son village. Days 3/4 involve Doi Inthanon National Park, a long tail boat ride, and an overnight stay with a village family, hiking, waterfalls and the beautiful temple atop the mountain Doi Suthep. Afterwards you are transferred back to Chiang Mai to your lodgings, after 4 days of seeing the beautiful Mae Hong Son region outside of Chiang Mai.

2 Days the Best Of Pai (from Chiang Mai)

A morning pick up from your accommodation in Chiang Mai takes you to waterfalls, canyons and beautiful outlooks to have spectacular views of the valley. Visit a temple with views and land in Pai for dinner in time for some evening strolls and shopping in Pai town. The second day take a bike tour around the town of Pai, a mineral bath, and take a selfie over the Pai River on the WW2 Memorial bridge before heading back (or not) to Chiang Mai. Overnight accommodation is included but extra if a separate room needed. Meals included.

Ha Long Bay, Vietnam

Ha Long Bay is a spectacular emerald wonderland with limestone rocks jutting from the water heavenward covered in birds and brush and hiding in the morning foggy mist. They are quite a mystical family that are much more than rocks in the lore of Vietnam.

2 Days Oriental Sails Junk Cruise /Ha Long Bay

Explore Ha Long Bay on an overnight cruise aboard a traditional-stye junk boat. A variety of activities allows you to experience this UNESCO World Heritage site, how you prefer. Choose a visit to a floating fishing village or kayaking, visit caves, swim, and maybe sit in on the chef’s cooking instruction before dinner. You also have the option of night squid fishing or just hanging out with some others on the boat. Pick up and drop off are in Hanoi, about 3-3.5 hours from Ha Long Bay.

3 Day Ha Long Bay Cruise/Cat Ba Island Tour

Besides the activities of the junk boat tour of the Bay, the second day will be exploring around Cat Ba island, located in the Ha Long area. There will be an overnight in Cat Ba city in a local hotel, allowing one to explore some local food and nightlife.

  1. I have a friend that live in Thailand and loves it. I haven’t traveled outside of the states yet but this certainly makes me want my passport fast. The tours sound awesome and very affordable. The photos are breathtaking. The Siem Reap Bike Tours look like so much fun, I’ll have to share this idea with my husband. Which tour is your favorite?

    1. If you can make it to SE Asia, try to make it a longer trip…as long as possible! Get in Thailand and a quick trip over to Siem Reap (super short flight)! The tours I mentioned are both easy and will give you a quick bit of insight to the area. You and your husband will not regret it. Especially if it is your first trip abroad. An incredible eye opener!!

  2. Hi Thomas,

Great post. I have been overseas often but never to South East Asia. Oh hang on I did spend two days in Shanghai once with my job. But overall I have a great desire to visit for a good holiday.

Your post is excellent. Vietnam is definitely on our bucket list so that sounds amazing. My daughter went last year.

    Thanks for the inspiration,

    Cheers,

    Kev
